SARA BASTA: LA PRIMA MADRE

27 January - 26 March 2022
curated by Cecilia Canziani and Costanza Meli

La prima madre (The first mother) is the exhibition by artist Sara Basta curated by Cecilia Canziani and Costanza Meli.

The exhibition, which will occupy the spaces of the silos and the mill’s basement – both obtained from the restoration of the old Pastificio Cerere – will be open to the public from Friday 28 January to Saturday 26 March 2022.

Sara Basta works on relationships by investigating the themes of education, co-creation, language and memory as part of a seamless shift between the personal and the collective. Through the sharing of experiences linked to a common ‘doing’, she questions hierarchies and roles.

La prima madre was conceived as a journey through Basta’s most recent research. Her body of work, which she has developed over the last two years, provides an emotional map drawn by the artist’s experience of time: from the present, as experienced and broken down in its repetitiveness, to the time of remembrance, the search for family memory, and the cyclical relationship between birth and death. The journey unravels from this original relationship, thus exploring the thematic units that characterise various works by Basta, namely motherhood, home, care, and the artist’s body as the seat and manifestation of physicality and emotion.
