On Tuesday 14 February 2023, Fondazione Pastificio Cerere will be presenting Amici o pittori, a project by Marco Emmanuele with Marco Affaitati, Paolo Assenza, Orazio Battaglia, Dario Carratta, Giulio Catelli, Valerio Di Fiore, Marco Eusepi, Krizia Galfo, Alessandro Giannì, Luca Grechi, Charlotte Janis, Emiliano Maggi, Andrea Mauti, Gianni Politi, Fabrizio Sartori and Caterina Silva. The exhibition will run from 15 February to 15 April 2023.
Two at a time, the sixteen painters invited by Marco Emmanuele met in his studio over the course of 2022 for a ‘relational painting’ session using the Drawing Machine #5.2, a device created by the artist that is capable of producing serial signs starting from the movements of a subject-guide. The eight pairs formed by the invited artists followed precise rules and initiated as many painting sessions, during which one of them would paint while being mirrored by the other, who would follow their partner’s work using the same brushes and colours.
Rather than an exhibition on painting, Amici o Pittori is intended to be an exhibition on friendship – after all, what is painting if not a dialogue between human beings?
These considerations gave rise to the Les amis de mes amis sont mes amis. Ipotesi per una quadreria project, an invitation addressed by Fondazione Pastificio Cerere to the artists involved to create a picture gallery composed of their works, which will be set up in Spazio Molini.
The exhibition will be accompanied by a publication edited by Aniene, which will include both the paintings on display and a series of short conversations on friendship and painting practice between Marco Emmanuele and all the invited artists.
